“oh no not high tops!”…

…was the response from my rather concerned (and avid high top wearing) boyfriend when i told him i wanted to get a pair for myself. he didn’t think it would work with my style, but i’ve proved him wrong, hah! although i seem to only be able to wear them well with jeans…and i hardly ever wear jeans…and they don’t match with many colours…and i won’t be able to wear them when with him – high top couple, i don’t think so! so maybe he did have a valid point…in any case, i feel more sporty, they are extremely comfy and i enjoy a bit of experimentation.  alice x

no prizes but the booby prize at the british soap awards

what i am about to say is a massive generalisation, but it has been proven time and time again: soap actors/actresses cannot dress. and last night’s soap awards merely served to reinforce the stereotype, or indeed worsen my expectations. although last night there was definitely competition in the booby prize category, as you will see from my chosen favourite flops -

a spring coat…

for the first time in two weeks…it is not raining. so i decided to go for a stroll in the park with my new spring coat. i had in fact dreamt about owning this (originally £75) pea green double-breasted coat in winter…but alas! i found it for £30 in the topshop sale a couple of weeks ago. perfect coat for springtime. alice x

i am making a comeback…

…and not the sort that involves a rubbish pop song, botox or new model boyfriend à la katie price or the horrific steps reunion. but it does involve new clothes! the reasons for being absent from the blog do not involve a freak accident or some other justifiable excuse - it purely involves a holiday, some laziness, lack of money and little motivation. but i am back, well rested, energetic, have a new loan and motivation so watch this space…

monochrome is not evil.

i  always thought that black+white=cruella de vil. and i always wear bright clothes. however i have broken out of my box accepted that monochrome is not evil and/or boring, thanks to some of the looks on the autumn/winter 2012 catwalks. i really like the contrasting panels seen throughout the 3.1 phillip lim collection, and the l.a.m.b dogtooth print. i am a monochrome convert, and am now rather fancying a black dress and white cruella coat….and a dalmation.

red carpet verdict : the oscars 2012

a congratulations is in order to all the stylists celebrities at the oscars yesterday. i had planned to unleash my red-carpet criticism using the previous format of sag, bag and flag (see the baftas and sag awards) however, it seems that everybody dressed spectacularly well. so i decided that instead of highlighting all the funniest failures (as there were none, somewhat unfortunately) i just picked out my favourite 7 of the night.

angelina jolie in versace – wow. i think this is perhaps angelina at her best: the epitome of beauty, elegance and the queen of seduction. jealous? naaah.

gwyneth paltrow in tom ford – if i could compare her to anything here, it would be a statue (not in a bad way). she looks regal, beautiful, and timeless.

emma stone in giambattista valli – i have a think for both bows and fuchsia, so this dress was always going to be a winner in my eyes, regardless of who wore it. but it does suit emma very well.

kelly osbourne in badgley mischka – although on the panel of fashion police, i think kelly has made some pretty horrendous fashion errors in her past. (including the current grey-hair trend) yet i really love this sequinned black dress – it is something different, and i like it.

meryl streep in lanvin – gold dresses so often look tacky, even the really expensive ones. however meryl streep really works this wrap around lanvin dress.

milla jovovich – effortless elegance. picked the celebrities’ designer of choice at the moment, ellie saab.

michelle williams in louis vuitton –  a coral peplum mermaid-esque gown complete with swirly patterns and a pick clutch does not work  on paper. but it does in reality, and michelle looks amazing!

colour blocking

colour blocking is still here, with my current chosen combination being blue + purple. i bought these bright blue trousers courtesy of h&m a couple of weeks ago, when i was searching for something to wear other than jeans and leggings. the colours also fit in nicely with the sunnier weather we have been having :-) however, i did see some people take it way too far last week – on three separate occasions i spotted a flip-flop, shorts and strappy top wearer. it’s still february for goodness sake! alice x

and the 70s bedcover, if you are wondering, is from asda :-)

london fashion week – that which is bonkers, bananas and left me a bit baffled.

oh, the craziness of fashion week. there are some things i have seen today which are just too hilarious/weird/random, so i felt i had to share it. some i actually genuinely like, but i’m not convinced any of it is ‘ready-to-wear’ fashion.

^two outfits from the meadham kirchoff show. not sure that christmas tinsel makes attractive clothes or that cleaning equipment makes fetching headgear…

^two outfits from mary katrantzou: one maze and one robot. i am quite hypnotised by them both, but not sure i would risk them on a night out.

^emilio de la morena. hmmm…

^francesco coscognamiglio. i am for a good fur coat, but i feel her legs are missing out.

^david koma. what is this ensemble about? all his pieces on the runway seemed to have been inspired by paperclips. not really feeling it, david.

^mother of pearl. or a hippy market from the 70s?

^meadham kirchoff. i think i would probably wear this one. (bar the make-up) got to love the rainbow sequins. :-)

the magic heels i can walk, run, jump and cartwheel in !

my latest purchase from topshop were these silver futuristic-looking wedges. looks-wise it seems that some people love them, some people hate them, but they go with everything AND they weigh about 10 grams. which means i can walk/run/sprint/dance just as well as i can with flats on. and also uber comfy. all heels should be made like this!  in short, they are incredible.  alice x
